Dhaka : The Westin Dhaka, now in its sixth year, has not only won World Travel Award and World Luxury Award for the second consecutive year but has also been nominated for the next year as well and has, for the first time been designated "Star Voice Best in Class," internally within Starwood properties.
Five persons of The Westin Dhaka have been recognizsed among the top 25 per cent among all Starwood hotels. This shows that we not only strive to achieve higher benchmarks for the hotel but also that we care for our Associates.
Azeem Shah, General Manager, The Westin Dhaka said this while talking about the achievements in 2012 and "Our Promise 2013," their business plan on what they are going to deliver this year, raising the bar for themselves.
Target wise Azeem Shah and Team Westin has achieved what they had promised in 2012 and is setting a higher goal for itself for the next year.
"The record Star Voice (Best in Class) results reflect a strong commitment to building a winning culture that brings out the best in all Associates. Developing great leaders is at the forefront of our efforts and thus is making a difference as Supervisor Effectiveness scores are at record highs across The Westin Dhaka."
"Outstanding results like this make clear that our team is singularly focused on managing the most loved and innovative global brand in the industry," he said.
Azeem Shah said, November 2012 had been the best month of the year as it has been since the inauguration of the hotel.
Share trading of Unique Hotel and Resorts Ltd (UHRL), the owner of Westin, started in Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Exchange on July 2, 2012.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the hotel as did US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Her Highness of Qatar. The World Congress of ASA, the association of professional secretaries, was held at the hotel.
The Westin Dhaka met all the matrices. In all indices it is the highest in this region, there being 38 Starwood properties in Bangladesh, India and the Maldives (region), he said.
Occupancy at the hotel year-to-date was on target at 84 per cent, average room rate was US$214. 76.83 per cent of the guests who stayed at The Westin Dhaka were Starwood Preferred Guests (SPGs), which goes to prove that brand loyalty is very strong. Globally SPG is the No. 1 loyalty programme. Gross operating profit year-to-date was 62 per cent, in November 2012 we did 69 per cent, he said. In GOP we are the No. 1 in the region.
LRA which does thirdparty audit of the Starwood properties, observing the properties anonymously, put the safety and security score of the hotel at 99.5 out of 100, service at 88, brand identity at 82, food safety at 93.75, cleanliness at 97 and overall score of the hotel at 89.8, also out of 100, the target being 87.5. The safety and security score was the highest globally in any Starwood property, he said.
"We excelled in Associate satisfaction as well achieving 4.46 out of 5, the target being 4.20," Azeem Shah said, adding delivering outstanding results we achieved our budgetary goals in terms of financial performance.
At the CSR front, Westin Dhaka was busy planting trees and conserving energy to create a safer environment, observing the Earth Hour. It's donation programme to UNICEF continues.
Under the Care for the Community programme the hotel facilitated the police in creating safer Gulshan 1 and 2 and served 3,500 free meals for Gulshan Society on Pahela Baishakh.
At the personal level Azeem Shah has been rated "A" by his superior.
In 2013 we will consolidate our position and put a little more into the hotel. As in the years gone by Team Westin seeks to deliver global growth, build on the great ?brand and winning with talent of 485 Associates?, he said.
There will be a new floor concept for guest rooms at a particular floor, he said, declining to name the floor right now.
