Doha : Qatar Airways will ring in the New Year as the official airline of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2013, attracting some of the world's top tennis players on the men's circuit.
Stars Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer will descend upon the courts of the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in the Qatari capital for what will be the first major tennis tournament on the 2013 global calendar.
Many of the world's top players will take part in the season opener in Qatar, one of the ATP tennis events on the world tour.
The Doha tournament runs from December 31 to January 5.
For Spaniard Nadal, the former world number one, it will mark a comeback to major competitive tennis after six months on the sidelines recovering from injury.
Last year's finalist Gael Monfils from France will join compatriot Richard Gasquet together with frequent competitor Russian Nikolay Davydenko, as well as Philipp Kohlschreiber, Mikhail Youzhny and Feliciano Lopez to battle it out on the courts for the 2013 title.
As Official Airline, Qatar Airways will fly players, officials, fans and media from around the world for a week of competitive tennis.
The carrier will also have significant court branding and a presence in the public village of the stadium complex.
In addition to the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, Qatar Airways has also shown tremendous support for the women's tournament - the Qatar Total Open 2013 to be held in Doha in February.
"Qatar Airways is delighted to provide continuing support to the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, one of Qatar's biggest annual sporting draws," said chief executive Akbar Al Baker.
"The tournament has now become a regular fixture on the sporting calendar here in Qatar and one that appeals to every tennis fan. Qatar Airways is thrilled to be part of the excitement and energy in the build up to this popular tournament here in the city of Doha each year."
