  Maersk Line to bolster its presence in Bangladesh

Dhaka : Maersk Bangla-desh Ltd, one of the largest shipping service providers in the world, recently vowed to facilitate a fantastic economic growth in Bangladesh through its better services in the future.
The vow was made at a press conference arranged in Dhaka marking the 20th anniversary of the company, a subsidiary of Denmark-based shipping giant AP Moller - Maersk Group.
The press conference was addressed by Lucas Vos, Chief Commercial Officer of the Danish shipping giant and Shamim Ul Huq, first Bangla-deshi Managing Director of Maersk Bangladesh.
Vos said, "Maersk has identified Bangladesh as one of the 15 emerging economies in its portfolio. We are focusing to assist in facilitating economic growth of the country through helping it reach all important global markets easily and reliably".
Huq said their plan in the future is to facilitate a fantastic growth in Bangladesh through better services and introduction of advanced and modern technology.
However, he laid stress on developing country's infrastructure in the shipping sector and working together for a prosperous Bangladesh.
Maersk Line is one of the leading liner shipping companies in the world and is part of the AP Moller - Maersk Group.
It has over 25,000 employees across 325 offices in more than 125 countries.
With over 600 container vessels and more than 3.5 million containers, Maersk Line ensures reliable and comprehensive worldwide coverage. Maersk Line was one of the pioneers to start containerised export and import in Bangladesh in the mid eighties.
Maersk Line with their number of innovative logistics solutions helped the country's ocean transportation conform to global standards.
In the last 20 years, Maersk Line has carried over a million TEUs to and from the shores of Bangladesh. A milestone was achieved through the support and patronage of its customers and stakeholders.
The officials said that they have a leadership team comprised of Bangladeshis, who have been trained locally and in the company's overseas organisations to prepare them for their current roles.
Ships of the company are currently manned by 38 Bangladeshi seafarers and 6 Bangladeshi captains are in command of its vessels.
The company remained active also in corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities focusing literacy programmes, traffic safety, city beautification and disaster relief.
Maersk Group by its currently two brands-Maersk and Safmarine-is serving over 30 per cent of the market in Bangladesh.
Maersk Line has been the pioneer in including a number of value added services over the 20 years. The services include the first containerised export of frozen seafood, garment and hangers, customer door pick up and the all important fixed day feeder sailings.
