Dhaka : Tourism sector of the country can flourish only through the efforts of private entrepreneurs and the government will extend all policy support in favour of tourism growth.
M Faruk Khan, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, said this while formally handing over the certificate of according the property four-star status to MN Karim, Chairman, Ocean Paradise Hotel and Resort, at the conference room of the ministry on July 1.
Ataharul Islam, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Md Ibrahim Khalil, Controller, Hotels, Samia Halim, Assistant Controller, Hotel and Restaurant Cell, Abdul Qader Munshi, Technical Director, Ocean Paradise Hotel and Resort were present on the occasion, among others.
Faruk Khan said, the government will welcome private investment in the tourism sector, be they local or foreign, under the PPP format.
MN Karim said the construction of the 296-room international standard hotel and resort was completed in September last year with the financial assistance of private sector Standard Bank.
He said it is possible to create employment for the unemployed youths of the country and earn foreign exchange through investing in the sector. He called upon the government for improving the infrastructure and law and order in the areas frequented by tourists.
