_A Monitor Report
Dhaka : Barring isolated attempts, riverine Bangladesh has not received the attention it deserves from the country's tour operators.

Very recently Green Channel Tour Operator has launched the speedy and luxurious "MV Mahirah" which can be used as floating hotel for multi-day cruises to the Sundarbans or for day-long cruises or conferences on the Buriganga.

"When we will not be offering cruises to the Sundarbans, that is during the off-season, we'll be offering day-long cruises on the Buriganga," said Begum Aziza Selim, Chief Executive, Green Channel.

"MV Mahirah, when it will be anchored on the Buriganga, will also be the perfect setting for corporate meetings as such meetings will be more fruitful with the participants away from the din and bustle of the city. The required facilities including lounges and sitting arrangements are there on board the vessel," she added.

There is no need to worry about hot, piping food. Equipped with its own kitchen, the vessel has its own full-fledged catering arrangements. The restaurant is spacious.
Forty tourists can travel on the centrally air-conditioned vessel at a time. There are 17 cabins with 34 beds, all lower berth, and six common bathrooms.

Two Ambassador suites with two Queen Size beds, attached baths and personal safe are the high point of the vessel.

Fitness Centre, home theatre with Karaoke and mini-swimming pool will help guests spend their leisure time.

Green Channel is now offering three-day two-night "Exotica Sundarbans" cruise. On the first day tourists board the vessel at Jailkhana Ghat in Khulna, cruising towards Sundarbans reaching Kotka in the afternoon.

After overnight on board the vessel tourists explore the mangrove forest on a wooden rowboat on the second day and then head for Kachi Khali.

On the third day the vessel starts return journey to Khulna depending on the high tide, arriving at the ghat in the evening.

Begum Aziza Selim is optimistic. "The number of tourists visiting the Sundarbans is on the rise over the years," she said and hoped it will increase more in the days ahead.
