  Kababs : Delights of Dhaka
Kababs are an all-time favourite in this part of the world. Although it is a bit on the spicy side in terms of taste, but being quite succulent and soft, it has earned a global popularity too, in the last few deca-des. Be it grilled, fried or sautéed_ ka-babs have an amazing taste, which is liked by one and all.

Dhaka being under the Mughal rule for years has a rich heritage in terms of culinary history. Whether it is the basics like rice or bread, or the main dishes like chicken or beef, Dhaka foods bear a significant influence of Mughal taste. So the city has a good number of kabab joints scattered throughout the entire capital.

Downtown Dhaka is famous for it's kababs. Star Kabab is almost a household name in this part of the city. It offers a wide range of tandooris and grills, along with naans and parathas. Apart from the kababs, Star is also famed for it's Chicken Jhalfirazee, Brain Masala, Liver Curry and of course Kaachi Biryani.

During winter they make Nehari, a kind of spicy mutton broth, which is simply awesome on a chilly winter morning.

Lailati, Bar-b-que-tonite, Labanga_ these are some of the popular kabab places in the central part of the capital-that is Dhanmondi. All these places have their own special items, which are hot favourite among the guests. Bar-b-que-tonite has, among other common items, delicious items like Lahori Mutton and Chicken Afghani. Also it makes one of the best Faludas in town. Similarly Lailati and Labanga have their own specialty items.

Gulshan, Banani, the high-end suburbs of the city are also rich in terms of kabab outlets. Dhaba, Rashana Bilash, Kebab-e-que, Hot Cottage, Oishi Foods, Kasturi Kabab, Star Kabab, Koyla_ these are specialty kabab shops, where one can find or have up to one's hearts content. These places are mainly popular for their variety of food, coupled with their ambience and service.

Uttara, the northernmost suburb of the city is a busy and vibrant township. It is complete with malls, food shops and restaurants. It has huge array of restaurants, which serve many different kinds of food. There are also a good number kabab joints, both old and new. Sangam, Shikara, La-Bamba are some of the popular kabab places in Uttara, which cater to the local crowd.

Mohammadpur and Mirpur, two very important and busy segments of the city are well-known for their delicious kababs. Although there are no such fancy or posh restaurants in these areas, but the casual outlets, which are quite many here, make some of the best kababs in the city.

Kabas are incomplete without the proper breads, like naans and parathas. Naans, which are kind of flat breads, baked in clay ovens, are immensely popular among the food-lovers. This is mainly beca-use these are dry and oil-free. These are made in different flavours, like garlic, butter, pudina, ma-sala, cheese etc. The parathas also have different preparations. Dhakai paratha, Lachcha paratha, Aloo para-tha, Methi paratha, Keema paratha-are some of the popular one's in this regard.

Raita is another important accompaniment that is a must with kabas. Made of yoghurt, crushed green chilly and pudina, this is a kind of dip which enhances the taste of the kababs manifolds. To round off a hearty kabab meal with a sweet note, nothing can be better than a scoop of freshly-made faluda. This is a cold dessert, which has flavoured ice-creams, coupled with fruits and nuts and in some cases jellos and boiled noodles. Star Kabab and Bar-b-que-tonite undoubtedly make the best faludas in Dhaka.

Be it winter or be it summer, kababs are an all-time favourite among the local people. The kabab restaurants are always crowded with enthusiastic food-lovers, who do not mind defying bad weather or awful traffic to relish their favourite food.

Anytime during evening is the right time for kababs---be it tandoori or tangri or
tikka, or reshmi or Lahori or Afghani. With the number of kabab restaurants coming up every now and then, it is quite obvious that kabab will soon be the numero uno in the popularity chart.
