As airline industry in Bangladesh continues to grow at an encouraging pace, more and more airlines are showing their interest in commencing their flight operations here, while the airlines already serving the country are striving to increase their capacities and frequencies.

With the increase in the overall economic activities in the country, air traffic is growing and quality of travellers and passenger mix are also improving. More and more people are now travelling on Business, Leisure, Education, Medical Treatment, VFR and for similar other purposes, who really care for quality air travel experience.

As the competition is getting fierce among the airlines for a fair share of the upmarket segment, the airlines are always on the lookout for even a bigger share, and the overall service standard of the competing airlines can earn them a competitiye edge over the others.

To assess the popularity of the airlines in Bangladesh, to judge their service standards and, in order to create an atmosphere of competition amongst the airlines, which would ultimately benefit the traveling peoples, The Bangladesh Monitor leading travel publication of the country - has decided to introduce "Airline of the Year Awards" from this year in association with leading Cell Phone operator AKTEL being supported by The Westin Dhaka and Galileo Bangladesh Ltd. as the technology partner.

It may be mentioned here that, this is for the first time we have taken such an initiative to honour the airlines for their services, which would create a lot of enthusiasm in the airline industry, as well as the traveling people and would generate huge media interests.
